About Angel Island

Angel Island State Park has a unique history and ecosystem. For more information please see the California State Park website.

Angel Island Recreation Company is honored to be an authorized concessionaire for California State Parks. As part of this partnership, Basecamp Hospitality’s mission is aligned with our agency, which is “to provide for the health, inspiration, and education of the people of California by helping to preserve the state’s extraordinary biological diversity, protecting its most valued natural and cultural resources, and creating opportunities for high-quality outdoor recreation.” At Angel Island, we lead by example and aim to foster a culture of environmental stewardship amongst our employees and guests. Angel Island Recreation Company focuses on four (4) core areas that set the foundation for the company’s Environmental Responsibility Plan.

Angel Island Environmental Commitment

1. Waste Management

  • Please recycle! We offer 2-bin waste stations for recycle and landfill.

  • We sell canned water in lieu of single-use plastics.

  • We use compostable service ware and straws.

  • We serve condiments in dispensers in lieu of plastic single-serve packets.

2. Watershed Health

  • To protect our watershed from harmful pollutants, we do not use cleaning chemicals. Instead, we use a series of plant-based, non-toxic products.

  • We work with California State Parks to remove weeds and invasive plant species from the island. By supporting the health of native flora, we also support a healthy ecosystem for our native wildlife.

3. Responsible Supply Chain Management

  • Our excellent food & beverage team takes great pride in building partnerships with local, high-quality farmers and food purveyors. Come and celebrate California’s bounty with us!

  • Our retail and souvenir shop features crafts from local Bay Area artisans and trendy American-made apparel that contains recycled fibers and other sustainably sourced materials. Come to our shop and get some Angel Island swag!

4. Energy & Fossil Fuel Reduction

  • At Angel Island, we celebrate all forms of non-motorized transportation. We offer guided hiking tours, guided Segway tours, and bicycle rentals!

Ceres

The Angel Island Company has partnered with Ceres Community Project Marin sponsoring their efforts to bring local teens into the kitchen, connecting them to healthy food knowledge and real cooking skills and giving them a chance to learn and give back to their larger community. The teens are mentored by a professional chef creating thousands of healthy nourishing meals that are then delivered free of charge to families in Marin dealing with serious illnesses such as cancer. $1 of every purchase of the Classic Sandwich on our café menu is donated to Ceres Community Project. Look for the sandwich on our menu board!

Ceres Community Project empowers teens to grow and prepare healing, organic meals that are delivered to families and individuals facing a health crisis like cancer. Each year, hundreds of teen and adult volunteers support members of our community with meals specifically designed to support their healing process, and tools to help them improve their eating habits for the long term. Founded in 2007 in Sebastopol, CA, Ceres has delivered more than 400,000 meals and supported thousands of teens with mentoring plus cooking, nutrition, work-ready and leadership skills. Ceres operates kitchens in San Rafael and Sebastopol, and will add two new program sites in early 2016, in Santa Rosa and Alameda.
